A Little About Me
I was born in Crossnore, North Carolina and I lived in Avery County until I was 18. I worked for Food Lion right after high school, and was offered a job promotion with Food Lion in Burke County, and I have lived here ever since. I met my future husband while working at Food Lion and we married in 1995. Michael, my little man, was born in March of 1999. I was still working with Food Lion, but I quit work in June of 2000 to stay home with Michael. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was 10 years old, and I decided to follow that dream after my son started Kindergarten. I returned to school in 2005 and I am now in the 2010 cohort for elementary education through Appalachian State University. I will graduate in May 2010. I have been married for 14 years and have a 10 year old son named Michael.
I have 1 sister and a best friend that is like a sister. My best friend has 2 children and they are my God-children, Rebekah is 16 and Daniel is 14.

I attend L.I.V.E. Church in Valdese where I am the leader of our children’s ministry. I also help to teach Children’s Church on Sunday mornings. I enjoy working with the children. I enjoy seeing the look on their faces when they remember the stories from the week before, and the excitement when they can answer the questions. Below you will see some of my friends that help me out.

Things I Like:
I love to watch the beautiful shades of orange, yellow and red of a sunset as the sun goes down behind the mountains.
I enjoy reading books where my imagination transports me to another place and time. I enjoyed reading the book, Rhett Butler’s People by Donald McCaig over the summer. I also enjoy reading Jerry Spinelli (Stargirl) and Kathryn Paterson (The Bridge to Terabithia and Jip, His Story).
I watch very little television, but there are some movies I will take a break for, one of my favorite movies is, Gone with the Wind. I also love the movie Facing the Giants and also Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
I love to go walking (not Hiking) on the many trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway and marvel at the miles of untouched landscape. It is a joy to see so much of nature displayed for generations to see in the future. This summer some of my family and I traveled up the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I love my dog, he is a Boston Terrier and loves to play ball. He will play with the ball as long as someone will keep throwing it.
Things I Dislike:
I am one of those weird people who have a problem eating certain foods because of their texture. An example of this would be bananas and Jell-O. I love the taste of bananas, but I don’t eat them because of the way they feel in my mouth. I do not eat Jell-O because it is squiggly and squishy texture when I am eating it.
I do not like strong smells or fragrances. They quite often give me a very bad headache so I try to avoid them.
I do not like people to treat the elderly disrespectfully. I believe older people should be treated well; they are one of life’s greatest resources.
I dislike littering and I believe people have a responsibility to take care of our planet. We need to take care of the Earth for future generations.
What I Look Like:
When I look in the mirror, I see my mama. I have dark brown hair and facial features like my mama. She has dark brown eyes where I have hazel colored eyes.
I am 5′ 6″ tall– that I must take after my daddy for he is 6′ tall and my mama is only 5′ tall.
I have bouncy, curly hair that refuses to do what I want.
I love to smile. I can remember as a young child covering my mouth with my hands so no one would see my crooked teeth– that is until my parents got me braces. I had them removed when I was 16 and one of the greatest compliments I can receive is to be told that I have a pretty smile.
How I Act:
I am a very shy person until I get to know someone and then my family will all concur that I talk to much. My family refers to me as a social butterfly. I am always fluttering around the room and talking to everyone.
I love helping people and try to be considerate and compassionate towards people and their circumstances. I strive to always find the good in people or situations.
I am an organized person and feel so much more at ease when things are neatly arranged and in the proper place. I used to be a perfectionist until I have had so many children in my home. I have learned to just enjoy them and not worry about how perfect everything in the house is or how perfect the things are that they do. Life is a learning process, and if I always have to have everything perfect then I would be missing out on too many things.
I am friendly and welcoming to anyone that shows up on my doorstep. The kids are always bringing people home that need a little extra love and warmth. I always have plenty of hugs to share with all of the children.
What You Should Know About Me:
I am flexible like a young tree on a windy day. I have learned to flow with whatever each day gives me to deal with.
I love wildlife as well as our family pets, I don’t like to see or hear of people mistreating animals or anyone who can not defend themselves.
I try to listen to both sides of a story and be fair in any situation.
I strongly feel that believing and encouraging our children to give their best daily is one of the strongest tools we have to help them believe in their own abilities.

You have always been kind to everyone. You are going to be such a sweet teacher.
Peggy,
You have an absolutely beautiful family. May I ask where those photographs were taken? The background is amazing. Oh, by the way your helpers from chuch are cute too!
Hey Jennifer,
The pictures were taken at my parents home. I have a friend whose daughter wants to become a photographer so we took her with us one afternoon. She did a great job, we were all very pleased with the pictures.
Peggy, these are GREAT photos! I especially like that you got Jane in the doggy suit. I know that this is an uncomfortable process – learning a new technology – but you are doing such a great job! You will be an AWESOME teacher!!
